Um...no.

Looks like Richard Pryor, but I doubt that is him.

I'm out. I have no idea who this is.

"He told me to let his people go."

"Did you?"

"No. Perhaps THAT was my mistake."

"So who did you want to play you in the movie?"

"Richard Pryor. He did a great job too."

--------------

I agree with AbuSarah. It looks like Richard Pryor, from a pretty bad comedy from the late 70's I think.

Wasn't the guy who played Arthur also in this movie? You know, the drunk Brit who opened a restaurant in L.A. or San Francisco (or someplace out west)? What the heck was that guys name?!

Do you mean Dudley Moore?

Pharoah saith true! It was a really bad movie, but from 1980. And Dudley Moore was in it.
Blogger John, at 11:34 PM
Ah yes. Dudley Moore! Now he was a bad actor!

Darn.... But isn't 1980 really the end of the late 70's?

Just like the new Millennium, which didn't start in 2000, but in 2001.

1980 would be the end of the decade of the 70's, no?

Okay I nit-pick.

I guess Arthur isn't one of your favorites??? While I can't wholly agree with you that 1980 was the last year of the '70s (1970-79 is 10 years, after all), I will concede that for me, "the '80s" don't begin until Reagan takes office in 1981.

So who is he?

Thanks, Amy! So I was right! We didn't have to know the movie as well, did we?

Ahhhh. But Joun, consider this.

If 1980 was the last year of the 70's as Pharaoh argues, then would that not also mean that 1870 was the last year of the 60's? So the decade of the 70's by that measure would begin in 1971 and end in 1980, which is a 10 year span.
Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:08 PM
I have to give this one to Amy, since she definitively named both the actor and movie title.

And Pharoah, this is an interesting debate. A decade is any ten-year period, right? So 1973-1982 would be a decade, yes? Our term "the 70s" may properly refer to 1970-79. If we spoke of the 198th decade, and not "the '70s," I would give you the 1971-80. But decades are in repeating cycles and not consecutively numbered like centuries. There is no inconsistency to arbitrarily run them in the 0-9 years.

You may argue that the "First Decade" ran from the year 1-10 CE and not 1-9 CE. My answer: not really, because the years 1-9 at the time were the Roman years 754-763 AUC. It wasn't until 525 that Dionysius Exiguus made the calculations resulting in the present-day Western calendar year system (which most prople agree was off by about 4 years anyway). It was applied retroactively. Consequently, no one ever lived in what they contemporaneously called the First Century C.E.

Right about now Dennis Miller would say, "Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong."

I named the person at 8:13, EIGHT HOURS EARLIER, with no acknowledgement of having got it right. Boooooooo!

You said "Looks like Richard Pryor, but I doubt that is him." Amy not only confirmed it was RP but named the movie. If you had to choose, to whom would you give credit?
Blogger John, at 8:53 AM
Uh, credit to ME for naming him, whether I was confident or not, I was RIGHT, and credit to Amy for naming the movie. I actually spelled out the right name you were looking for.
R-I-C-H-A-R-D P-R-Y-O-R.
I entered it as an answer. Otherwise, why did I type that entry into your blog at all? And it was right, but our game show host was silent to it, as if it were wrong. But someone else types in the same name EIGHT HOURS later, and you're all like: "WHAT'S SHE WIN, BOB!??"

Pharaoh awaits the next trivia question.

AbuSarah--Yes, you first identified Richard Pryor. I didn't respond because in my mind it was obviously Richard Pryor; I was more interested in the character/movie. I concede that the "rules" are somewhat arbitrary (I haven't posted any, nor thought about any) which makes them unfair. I'll fix that today.

Pharoah--I haven't been updating the questions on the weekends, but since there was a special request I'll put one up shortly.

Hey guys. Sorry I've been so swamped this week. It's getting to the point that days are running together....today isn't Monday is it? :) Hang loose.
Welcome back, GFT!
