117. Japan, 1600

Thanks Nora for answering #116!

We have already passed into 1600! I tried to have a big party but naysayers keep telling me that the 17th Century doesn't start until 1601. Oh well. This is a foreign film, but there's no way I'm skipping it.

One of my all time favorite Kurosawa movies - Yojimbo. This is the actor who plays the samurai for hire. I don't remember his name.
You know your Japanese movies! It's not Yojimbo but I'm giving you credit anyway because it is a Kurosawa movie, and the actor is Toshiro Mifune, the same actor who played the samurai in Yojimbo. There isn't much to go on in this picture, but it comes from a different movie. There was an American remake set in the Old West.

You are talking about Last Man Standing, right? The Bruce Willis movie ? Or may be A Fistful of Dollars with Eastwood ? I could have sworn that they were both based on Yojimbo. No ?
It's probably from Sanjuro in which Toshiro Mifune plays the title Samurai,

Yojimbo was such a success for Kurosawa that he followed it up with Sanjuro. Sergio Leone borrowed from both films to make his Fistful movies. Also, Kurosawa's Seven Samurai was made into the western The Magnificent Seven and George Lucas got his idea for the two robots in Star Wars from the Japanese director's The Hidden Fortress. They all starred Toshiro Mifune.

OK, OK! This particular shot is an iconic one from Seven Samurai, which was remade into The Magnificent Seven (and The Three Amigos, and Bug's Life, et al.)
