Since noone's answered this one, I'm going to take a VERY WILD GUESS. Could he be an officer on the Titanic?

I'm pretty sure this is George VI, the King of England in 1937.

George VI became king suddenly when Edward VIII abdicated. He ruled England during WWII. He is ,of course, the father of the current queen, ElizabethII.

Wild guesses are better than no guesses, but Jim's right--it's King George VI. His brother was king and suddenly gave it all up to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson.
