Interesting answer! But I was looking for Thor Heyerdahl, the Norwegian adventurer who famously sailed the Kon-Tiki, a primitive boat based on Incan designs, over 4,000 miles from South America to Polynesia, proving that the voyage would have been possible and that Polynesia could have been settled by South Americans. His story of the adventure, The Kon-Tiki Expedition, reads like a National Geographic Special (come to think of it, it probably is!).
Gotta love it when adventure and anthropology come together--sort of an Indiana Jones of the sea.
The military look threw me off. In 1950, Thor Heyerdahl made a film of his Kon Tiki adventure. In the 60s he sailed the Atlantic in a papyrus boat, called Ra.
Thanks to the Wayback Machine, we're currently working our way through "Hollywood history" from the Stone Age to the modern era--and beyond. I remembered to bring my camera, but I need your help identifying the people we meet and from what context they came (i.e., what show or movie they appeared in). Everyone is encouraged to participate.
