Right, GFT! He was accused of attempting to bribe a McClellan Committee investigator. The McClellan Committee was looking into corrupt unions. Heh.

Conventional wisdom is that he found himself on the wrong side of La Cosa Nostra, and they took him for a ride on July 30, 1975. He was never heard from again. He's presumed to have been assassinated, and just about every hitman who was in Detroit at the time has taken credit for it.

In reality, he was forced into an early retirement in an undisclosed location, where he lived out the rest of his days hanging out with Elvis, Jim Morrison, and D.B. Cooper.
