Raymond Massey and Richard Chamberlain were on Dr. Kildare. They played the roles originated by Lionel Barrymore and Lew Ayres.

You should know better than to give me a clue ahead of time, John. The other show is Ben Casey with Vince Edwards. Both shows were extremely popular.

Right on three counts, Jim! You're right on both shows, and that I should know better than to give you the clue in advance!

In September of 2005, Entertainment Weekly listed the top ten doctor-themed shows. Ben Casey made the list. Commenters complained that Dr. Kildare and House were noticably absent.

In looking at the cast list for Dr. Kildare, it appears that they hired every actor in Hollywood, including Fred Astaire, Jack Nicholson, Lee Marvin, William Shatner, and James Mason.
