Back in January, a program of liberalization brought new freedoms in Czechoslovakia. Of course, their Soviet overseers could not tolerate this. After eight short months, the tanks rolled in.

I've been reading all of Milan Kundera's books recently. I had never seen this film of his best known work until last week (from my Netflix, which I love). Pictured here are Lena Olin and Juliet Binoche in The Incredible Lightness of Being.
